Finnish language translation has been in practice for several centuries. Before this period, the Finnish language mainly existed in oral conversation, with every region having its own dialect. Earlier, only few pages (less than 100) were available in Finnish. Mikael Agricola had translated the New Testament, Old Testament, prayer books and other religious information for the Finnish speakers in Finland. It took him almost a decade to finish. Other well-known Finnish translators of the last century are Otto Manninen, Pentti Saarikoski and Eino Leino. These translators mainly focused on Finnish translations of works of literature in other languages.
